I will begin with the disclosure that neither my husband or I are believe in visits to heaven. However, we received this as a review copy from Thomas Nelson, and doing so we reviewed it. I am not here to persuade the reader of this review as to whether or not such things take place but rather to write an unbiased review of the material. Saying that I can not say that this is sound scriptural teaching or theology, but the story is interesting and compelling. As with all of these types of books I think the greater question that begs to be answered is not whether heaven is real but rather we as an individual believes that God is who He says He is and what we will do with that knowledge - if you believe in God you will believe in the truth of His word. Then would God have a need to provide proof that Heaven is real??
This is well put together material. The book is a quick and easy read and enjoyable if you enjoy such stories. It is one that tugs at the heart strings and will no doubt bring tears to your eyes. The kit includes a DVD and a conversation guide. I would recommend that the book be read before or during this study. This would be interesting for the small group in your church or for a family study.
It is based off the best selling book by the same name which chronicles the story of a young boy and is written by his father Todd Burpo, a Pastor. Enjoy the reading and the study, but do so with the scriptures open next to you - and let the scriptures show you if such experiences are true to the Word.
Thanks to Thomas Nelson for this review copy.
