Illustrated Family Bible Stories, New Leaf Publishers This is one of those must haves on the shelf or coffee table. I would highly recommend it as a baby shower gift because it is one that will be enjoyed for years to come and generations to come. If you are looking for a way to make bible history come alive for your children this book is the one for your family! Children are invited to jump into the daily lives of biblical legends. They are invited to explore what life was like in those times and those places, to be immersed in historical information with words and vivid pictures. This book opens up the opportunity to discuss with your children the fact that the bible is more than a book of stories - it is the history of people and generations, it is the shaping of lives and souls, it is the making of the world we know. I found it unique because it opens with an introduction to the bible these pages explain the history of the bible. It explains the bible’s central message, the original language, the bible and archaeology. This was very neat to read and makes notes for our history as an added resource. The pages are thick pages that are made to withstand years of wear and tear – and even sticky toddler fingers and baby drool; which our family is very familiar with. I have even been able to take a wet wipe and wipe of chocolate finger prints from the pages – which makes for one happy momma. However, the true test of a book of this type is how it holds the attention of children of varying ages. My children are 13, 10, 7, 6, 2, and 7 months – all except the baby have enjoyed this book. I think it has a great deal to do with the fact that the pictures are colorful and interesting for the younger kids and the graphs, charts and inset information are interesting for the older children. The stories are easily read in one setting and then all the inset information to the side of the page offer conversation starters. It is easy to spend time discussing what you have just read and how it applies to your life and how it has shaped history. Another added benefit of this book is the ribbon bookmark. This makes for an easy way to mark your place so you can pick up where you left off. Thanks to New Leaf Publisher for this review copy. It has been a true blessing to our family.
