The Manual to Manhood, Jonathan Cathermann

This is an excellent book for any teen boy that is in your life. In fact I think it would be great to give to boys as they graduate into teen group. The topics are simple, every day useful things. Even as a grown woman I found some of the topics helpful and interesting for myself...such as the section on Wealth and Money Management and Tools and Fixits, and Clothes & Style (especially on how to iron slacks), and even the cooking section - every one can use improvement and help in this area, or at least most of us can. My ten year old saw this book sitting on our dining room table when it was time for me to write the review and said, "Mom when can I read that one?" - so I know the title and topics caught his eye. Although he has a very active dad who takes a lot of one on one time with each of our four sons and two daughters I think sometimes people just learn easier on their own or at least out of the shelter of their parents - there are some kids who just pick it up better that way. This author has done an excellent job at presenting 10 areas - with multiple topics under each area. It is easy to read and understand without being overly simplistic. It will help give young boys the confidence and knowledge to accomplish certain tasks. I believe it will also help to foster a since of accomplishment as each task is mastered. It would be an excellent resource for boys and mens ministries as a guide of topics to study. There are a multitude of books like this for young girls but few for boys - and most of those are relegated to the topic of sexual purity and the avoidance of pornography. This book was a refreshing change from the same old standard. I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for my honest review of the book.
