We Choose Virtues

Every once in a while you happen along a product that just makes all the difference. It really is not earth shattering in presentation - it is just fresh, fun and a great fit for any one. This is one of those great products! We choose virtues is not a behavior modification system - although the use of it will cause behaviors to be modified. It is not a 12-step program to better kids - although the 12 virtues presented would make any one a better person. It is not a quick fix, self-help, or band-aide program - although it will fix many issues. It is a whole person, training of core virtues that result in a confident, well-adjusted, well-rounded individual who can adjust to life circumstances with a healthy outlook and ability to handle all situations. Our family has truly enjoyed this program. I especially like the small flash cards that make it easy to review the virtues we are studying and the past ones we have done while on the go. They are also a quick easy guide to use as a reminder when the children are having difficulty in an area. To help them memorize the catch phrases and scripture we made up songs and hand movements and did an art project for each one. For instance we discussed self-control and talked about how they can only control themselves - so they need to focus on their actions and responses and not other people's actions or responses. I had my younger children make and decorate a stop sign to remind themselves to stop tattle telling, stop finger pointing, and start looking at what they need to change in themselves. Their stop sign also served to help them remember that they can stop bad behavior and control their impulses. The kits are put together to help implement this new style of learning easily. It is not a unit study and does not require tons of planning. In fact it is one of the easiest things to add into even the most hectic lifestyle. I think it would be difficult to be upset with the quality or the outcome of this product. You will find that children will be excited about obedience, kindness, self-control and the other 9 virtues. In fact as you review them over and over it will give the child a sense of accomplishment and success. They will begin to feel more confident in themselves. They may even get excited about reciting verses to you and as they recite these they become a part of the character of your child. I found that the flash cards could be used as conversation starters as you ask your child to creatively tell you how they could apply each one to their lives for the day and then see if they do that. I am giving away one set of parent cards. Please leave a comment below. This give-away ends at midnight tomorrow (Sept 11,2012) and a name will be randomly drawn. I received the home school kit as a review product - and have since ordered stuff for my Sunday School at church because I believe it is such a beneficial product!
