Momology

Another great one from MOPS. This is a wonderful biblestudy/devotional for mothers. I really enjoyed the unique layout of the book. I like the testimonies that dealt with each topic. It made the book more personal and engaging. It brought to light that though each of us is unique in our mothering style we all face very similar in our experiences and reactions. This would be great for a group or individual.
Thank you Baker Publishing for the review copy.

A women's Guide to Spiritual Warfare, Quinn Sherrer

As good as all the other books these two have written on this subject. This book deals with your home and children. Great resource for those seeking to study prayer and the power of such in a woman's life. Very powerful and interactive. Be ready to prayerfully seek God's divine and guiding hand as you are exposed to scripture.
Thank you to Regal for the review copy.

Transforming Children Into Spiritual Champions, George Barna

I highly recommend this book for church leaders and parents. It is an excellent encouragement and resource. It has been a great help in my personal life as well as my work with the youth and children in my church. There are other resources that go along with this book that are also great. The book is easy to read and understand.
Thank you regal for the review copy.

Women's Ministry Guide, Focus on the Family

I found this to be thorough, concise and very helpful. Whether starting a new women's ministry or wanting to refresh an existing one this would be an excellent resource for a women's leader.
Thank you Regal books for the review copy.

From Anger to Intimacy, Ted Cunningham & Gary Smalley

Look past the title - do not let pride mislead you - this is a must read - we ALL of buttons that can be pushed! This book is highly convicting to those seeking Christ's direction and sharpening in their lives. It exposes the very sin nature of acting on unrightous anger - and all of us do it - is is our fleshly first instinct and must be brought under control of the Holy Spirit. I have quickly become a fan of these two authors and now own many of their most recent works thanks to being able to review them for the publisher. This one is no less impressive than the first - I have already handed it out to others I know. Thank you regal for the review copy

Coached for Life, Ed Flaherty

Inspirational and heartwarming, challenging and inspiring.
I am not a huge sports fan and could not tell you the first thing about football. I am however keenly aware as a former coach's wife of the impact a coach has on His players. This is an often untapped mission field - over-looked and forgotten. It is during this period of my husband's life, before surrendering to full time ministry, that we saw Christ's love and testimony being taught through him in the public school. The impact of a Coach's leadership and life on the children he coaches is often life-changing, life-directing, and purpose-given. I have seen children that had nothing to live for no direction in life become better students and college oriented, goal oriented and Christ directed at the end of their time under the leadership of my husband. I am always glad to see imprint such testimonies as these. I would suggest this book for everyone - especially the coach who struggles against the politics of his field to continue teaching life changing principles to the children that hang on his every word and see him as their hero and leader.

The Heart Mender, Andy Andrews

"I Think you have to forgive him for you./Because whenever you get hurt by somebody you can either think about 'em all day long and let 'em keep hurting you inside...or give 'em to God." (page 129/130)
What a powerful truth - the very scarlet ribbon of truth woven through the Word of God and sealed with the sacrifice of Christ! FORGIVENESS!
This book has become one of my favorite "fiction" novels of all time! It is the first time I've read a book by this author and I am so very impressed by his work. This will be required Reading in our high school, home school literature and history as it relates so well the truths of God's word and the cost and magnitude of war. Such things are not easily endured, but those who survive by the hand of God and acknowledge His divine plan are testimonies of His great power in the midst of great darkness, pain and suffering. They further serve as the very affirmation that God has thoughts of peace and an expected end for his people. We are so quick to classify people into groups - such as was pointed out by Mr. Newman - there is a difference between a Nazi and a German and a Ku Klux Klan member and an American though both claim to fight for the same country. This is same in the spiritual one true follower of Christ one look a like - both claiming the same God.
I cried, a laughed, I anxiously fought the urge to read the end first. My heart raced in anticipation and stood still with fear and heartache. The emotions are on all levels as you are invited into the lives of two very unique and special individuals. I found it even more interesting as I have lived in South/East Texas near Galveston and have traveled along these beaches from Galveston to Pensacola Beach, Florida.
This is a must read! Thank you Tyndale for the review copy.

Momolgy, MOPS

Another great one from the MOPS group! This is a wonderful bible-study/devotional for mothers. It would be great in a small group. I am currently part way through it - and have really enjoyed the unique layout and personal testimonies on each topic. It is nice to find encouragement in this season of life - as well as practical, biblical advice on parenting. I am a mom that does not think you can ever have too many bible studies on this subject as this season requires much prayer and complete reliance on God to accomplish with joy. This study does an excellent job of pointing out that though we are all unique there are still common things that go along with being a mother.

How to Build A Life Changing Men's Ministry, Steve Sonderman

How To Build a Life Changing Men's Ministry, Steve Sonderman
Ok - I'm a woman, involved in women's ministry - I requested to review this book to see it's appropriateness to reccommend as a resource to our men's ministry leaders.
What I read caused me to look at the men in my church differently as I saw the true challenges they face layed out in the pages of this book. I found many ideas that were presented could be easily transfered to women's ministry. However, what I found most interesting is the loneliness of so many men. This would be a great resource and help to the leaders that are seeking to reach out to men in this age.
Thank you Baker Publising for this review copy.

Warrior Chicks, Holly Wagner

Loved It! I am a firm believer of being a warrior for God - and am blessed to be married to a man that has invited me into the battles of the kingdom work instead of confining me to the boundaries of home. This book encourages a woman to embrace her identity in Christ - recognizing that we have a unique battlefield to fight on - and fight we must! It is written in a conversational stye that I found engaging and hummorous. This may cause some people difficulty in reading if they are used to a more traditonal writing style. It is like having a conversation with a girlfriend. I could almost hear the author's voice and excited passion of this subject as I read it. This book most certainly awakens the inner warrior that often lays hidden and asleep in the deepest part of the women's heart.
Thank you Regal for the review copy.

What Happened to my Life, Danna Demetre

Wonderfully well written and filled with biblical direction. This is a great read for anyone. No one knows what tomorrow brings - but I am certain each of us have had that terrible trial, that one storm that has caught us unaware. There in the midst of the storm God shows up - in all his glory and power. This book reminds you of just that. Danna Demetre has set out scripture as a guide for life when life falls apart around you. This book would be a great encouragement for those in this time of uncertainty.
Thank you REvel for this review copy!

Uncovered, Susie Davis

This is the birds and bees talk that a lot of us never had with our mothers: the joys of sex inside the coenant marraige uncovered. Saddly enough the enemy has robbed many couples the joy of this aspect of marraige. The lies of the enemy have damaged the very beauty of the intimacy and security of this act - taking away the joy that God intended for the married couple. This is a wonderful book for the newlywed or those seeking to uncover the biblical joy of this area of marraige.

Women's Retreat Kit! Great for your ministry!

Planning a Women’s Retreat? Why Settle for a Weekend Getaway?
Travel the world in seven sessions with Group’s new retreat kit
When most churches begin planning a women’s retreat, their first step is to track down a guest speaker. Next, they may book a fancy hotel or rustic retreat center for a weekend. Regardless of the venue, the outcome is usually the same: lots of sitting, listening, and note-taking. For churches willing to trade convention for adventure, the next women’s retreat could be a passport to another world.

Wonder Full World Women’s Ministry Retreat Kit, the newest retreat kit for women from Group Publishing, Inc., offers an affordable, fun-filled, interactive experience for churches of any size and budget. The retreat kit equips churches to create an experience for the women of their congregations using the talent of their own members rather than having a speaker come in for the weekend. Wonder Full World is more than just a weekend getaway. It’s an imaginative journey around the world and an exploration of the “I wonders” in a woman’s heart through in-depth Bible study, an unforgettable worship experience, and an open invitation for girlfriends to draw closer together and experience the vastness of God’s love.

With a Group retreat kit, churches have access to all the resources they need to lead a retreat and the opportunity to encourage the women in their own congregations to fulfill the leadership roles. As women take part in this imaginary world tour, they will ponder seven questions:
· I wonder if anyone cares about me…
· I wonder what it would be like to be royalty…
· I wonder if I matter to God…
· I wonder where God is when life is hard…
· I wonder if I can really rely on God…
· I wonder if I can make a difference…
· I wonder what’s ahead for me…

For $99.99, churches will receive everything they need to host the retreat, including a director’s guide, a worship leader’s guide, a custom CD with eight songs, seven leader’s guides (one for each session), a training and promotional DVD with three commercials, a CD-ROM with graphics and other resources, and travel themed audio tracks for each session. The kit also contains samples of the essentials and gifts for each participant attending the retreat: a journal, charm, music CD, tote bag, and swatch from the service project blankets. The basic cost for materials per participant is between $13.50 for the essentials (journal, charm, and service project) and $21.00 (which includes the essentials as well as a music CD and tote bag). Like Group’s VBS curriculum, each women’s retreat includes a service project. This year, participants will make fleece blankets to be sent around the world to those in need.

In a time when many young women perceive women’s ministry as an activity for their mothers, Group has created Wonder Full World Women’s Ministry Retreat Kit to connect with women of every age and walk of life, even teenagers. Nappa’s team has also taken care to make the materials accessible to women who don’t know Jesus.

Plan B, ,Pete Wilson

Well, Has your life ever fallen apart before your eyes? Have your dreams ever come crashing down around you - The "Perfect" job fallen through - "Mr. Right/Mrs. Right" turned into Mr/Ms Wrong? - - - Your Plan A just not worked out??? What then?! This book is great at looking at this very dilema! Pete Wilson's book takes a look at the reality of life - we are living in a sinful fallen world in need of a Savior to redeem us and save us. It is a book of practical biblical wisdom and encouragement. An easy to read and enjoyable book once started I did not want to put it down. It points to the reality that life rarely works out the way we planned but God's ways are always better.
Thank you Thomas Nelson for this review copy

Faith Begins at Home, Mark Holmen

This book is for the parents, while Building Faith at Home is written for the church leader. In it Mark Holmen gives practical ideas and advice on how to practice your faith at home. While we have many of these things in place I found the book to be a great encouragement and found some fresh ideas as well. This book is easy and enjoyable to read. If you are trying to teach principles of faith in your home, but feel that you are not equipped or feel overwhelmed at the thought of sitting down and trying to teach a nightly devotional - this book is for you. I think that it will ease the frustration and anxiety associated with this for many people. I loved it.
Thanks to Regal for the review copy.

Building Faith At Home, Mark Holmen

Subtitled "Why Faith At Home Must Be your Church's #1 Priority", this book hits the nail on the head. There has risen a generation that does not feel equipped to carry the faith on at home. Fewer families meet for dinner around the same table much less pray together or have devotional time together. In fact this can sound a bit overwhelming to most people, as they never experienced this as a child and have no idea how to do it as an adult. Yet this is the very principle God gave to us in the bible that we should speak the scripture day and night to our children. As our society has shifted to an ever more me-centered, activity-minded, success-driven society Jesus has been pushed from the head of the house to the last in line. The focus has turned from passing on a legacy of faith that is lived out in daily life to keeping up with everyone else and being "involved". This book encourages Pastor's and laymen on how to equip, empower, and encourage parents in living out their faith. It gives practical ideas on how to live out the faith they confess. I encourage leaders to read this book and the book titled "Take it Home" by this same author. In fact why not pick up the easy to read small Faith at home devotionals for moms, dads? These little books are great resources to hand out to parents!
Thank you Mark Holmen for using the talents God has given you to put into writing the concerns of what has been on the hearts of so many of us in ministry!! I appreciate you and highly reccommend your books to all seeking to learn more and do things differently!

First Place for Health - Seek God First

Another winner in the First Place for Health Bible Study Program. This relies on the truth that if we seek God first all things fall in line. How true this is. When seeking God first in life you can not help but make changes in your life as you see that your life is a reflection of God. I love the fact that although this is a weight loss program it's initial and ultimate goal is not weight loss at all, but the internal, eternal health of a person spiritually. It drives the individual to maintain (or develop) a personal relationship with Christ. When this happens you are a more satisfied person and caring about your food and diet and exercise seem to fall in line with the daily maintenance and care of your body - the temple of Christ.

A Woman After God's Heart, Women of the Word

Thank you Regal Publishing for this review copy!

I have truly enjoyed this bible study. It is meant to be an 8 week course, but I often found myself doing a weeks work in one day - broken into small pieces over the day. It is not divided into daily sections instead it is divided into four section for each of the 8 chapters. It is a very in-depth bible study that requires a person to look up numerous scripture references. I enjoyed this because it challenged me to dig deep into the scripture, to pray about what God had for me in that scripture and to study. This approach draws you into a closer relationship with Christ instead of you depending on a dvd fill-in-the-blank approach to scripture study that depends on the revelation of someone else on what scripture means. This is a great study....can't wait to do more in this series!

OPERATION KID TO KID, OK2K!!!

GET INVOLVED! This is a GREAT way to help in a hurting world!

Operation Kid-to-Kid™ Blankets a Hurting World with God’s Love

Tonight in countries around the world, children will go to sleep hungry and cold, without parents, without homes...without hope. Now your ministry group can send a simple, tangible expression of God’s love to those in need.

Group Publishing, the premier publisher of children’s Bible curricula, including Sunday school and VBS, believes that some of the best ministers to children who are experiencing disaster and hardship are other children. Through the Operation Kid-to-Kid (OK2K) program, Group partners with nondenominational Christian ministries like Biblica (formerly International Bible Society) and World Vision to provide opportunities for children in North America to share God’s love with other children in difficult or disastrous situations. In 2009 alone, Operation Kid-to-Kid reached almost one million children. Since its inception 12 years ago, Operation Kid-to-Kid projects have impacted over 4.5 million kids and their communities all over the world. Highlights include:

· Over 100,000 care kits distributed to countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, and Albania
· More than 380,000 gift boxes sent to needy children worldwide
· Over 310,000 pairs of shoes and 200,000 pairs of socks given to orphans across the globe
· Over 1.5 million Spanish Bible books delivered worldwide
· More than a million cuddly prayer bears and copies of The Survivor’s Bible provided free of charge to underprivileged children all over the world

“Operation Kid-to-Kid is a great way to teach kids compassion and service,” says Joani Schultz, cofounder of Group and OK2K. “Children learn by doing. It’s one thing to drop a nickel in the offering plate, but when kids make a gift with their own hands, when they can be creative and personal, this leaves a real impression on both the givers and the receivers.”

This year’s OK2K project is a simple no-sew fleece blanket that proclaims “God Loves Me!” right in the fabric. Each 56” by 42” blanket will also include a hidden surprise—a little white heart concealed between the fleece layers. The heart is a sweet secret kept by those who create the blankets, one that symbolizes God’s love for the world and our love for others. Project participants are encouraged to pray specifically for the unknown person who will receive the blanket as they tuck the heart inside.

The OK2K blanket can easily be incorporated into any Sunday school or VBS curriculum. This year, the “God Loves Me” blanket is included as a special activity in Group’s two new 2011 VBS programs, Egypt: Joseph’s Journey from Prison to Palace and High Seas Expedition. The multi-generational participants will learn about the 40 million children around the world who are desperately vulnerable because of the AIDS pandemic and the effects of extreme poverty. Through Group’s partnership with World Vision, blankets created this year will reach children in Africa coping with the pandemic’s effects on their communities or families, including those who have been orphaned. Instructions for delivering the blankets to World Vision for distribution are included with each blanket kit. To make the gift extra special, churches can send a personalized “God Loves Me” coloring book with each blanket.

Over the years, OK2K has become one of the largest forces mobilizing children in serving other children around the world through gifts of school supplies, Bibles, hygiene kits, Christmas gifts, Bible coloring books, and socks and shoes. But the ministry opportunities are not just for kids. Between recent natural disasters like the earthquake in Haiti and the lingering effects of the global economic crisis, there are more opportunities than ever for Christians to show the love of Christ to others in need—and not just for a VBS event. Operation Kid-to-Kid can mobilize service projects any time of the year. Because the “God Loves Me” blanket project is so simple and practical, it is a perfect fit for a variety of ministry opportunities, from youth or women’s groups and short-term mission trips to neighborhood outreach initiatives and ministry to the homeless. With a little imagination, a ministry group of any size and age can customize the project to support its own ministry vision.

“For many of us, a mission-focused heart is something that develops over time. Like any aspect of Christ’s character in us, loving others like Christ loves them takes practice. This is a lesson for adults as well as children,” says Schultz. “Hopefully, OK2K service projects like the ‘God Loves Me’ blanket will encourage Christians of all ages to commit greater time and resources to missions.”

Sing, Lisa T. Bergren

This is a captivating book about three siblings on seperate roads all seeking the same thing - something to fill the void they feel in their lives. Each on a very different road, chasing after very different things, hiding from the same secrets. Love, envy, joy, strife, hardship and anguish plauge each of them. Shame, unforgiveness, fear, and the ultimate realization that the only peace is found in God. Family is so important and so easily forsaken and forgotten, but it is often the faithfullness of one family member that God uses to bring about forgiveness, healing and restoration. Beautiful book. Wish I had read the first in the trilogy, but look forward to reading the last. Thank you B&B Communications for the review copy.

Heading Home, Renee Riva

This is a great fiction book about "coming home". I do not prefer books written in first person unless it is journaling, but still found this to be well-written and enjoyable. It is suitable for all teens to read (which is nice). A story of childhood love and the real-world struggle of discovering the path God has for an individual. You are invited into the life of the main character as she searches for God's design and purpose for her life after turning 18 and returning to her childhood home. I don't know of anyone at this age who would not appreciate this story - what is love? - what is my purpose? - what do I do with my life?...These all must be answered. Through this book you see the handiwork of God's design and purpose, all laid out, when we are obedient to his call.
Thank you B&B Communication for this review copy.

Experiencing Christ Together, Neil T. Anderson

I thought at first this would be your typical couples devotional. However, it is anything but that. In true Neil T. Anderson style this book encourages the couple to look as individuals at their relationship with Christ and to strengthen it first as an individual then as a couple. I enjoyed the book and found it difficult to put down. I am reading it through a second time to make additional notes. I am also looking forward to reading some of the other books recommended in this one as companions. This is a great book for couples - those with strong marraige relationships and those that are struggling for survival. I recommend this highly to anyone seeking a closer walk with Christ and ultimately a closery, intimate spiritual walk with you spouse - one that transcends the daily life but is solely centered around the keeper of the covenant marraige - Christ himself. Thank you Regal publishing for this review copy.

Fun Filled Parenting, Silvana Clark

This is a great and easy to read book. In fact I read it in one day. I think Silvana best said when she wrote, "Children need a light-hearted atmosphere at home", Page 14. Children (and adults) are submerged in a high-stress, high-demand, sin saturated, broken-down, uncertain world. They need a place to relax, recuperate, and enjoy. A place they can be what God created them to be - children. Free from the stress and standards of the world system. We as adults need this place too. This book, along with Real World Parents has become one of my current favorites. I think that every parent needs to own a copy - pick one up for a shower gift today or as a Mother's Day gift. What better gift than a reminder that we all need to relax and remember our life is but a vapor and should be enjoyed day by day to it's fullest.
Thank you Regal for this review copy.

Captivating, John & Stasi Eldredge

This book is the counterpart to Wild at Heart and is equally amazing. The simplicity of the writing style makes it an easy and enjoyable read. On its first printing I became a big fan of the Eldredge's. In fact I own all their books in print and loan them out and recommend them to my friends. I enjoy the way the author weaves in what is common (movie references) to make points about "kingdom truths". This book touches on the true heart of a woman while awakening the imagination. It reminds woman of her unique roll in this kingdom work. The authors do a great job of stirring the woman's soul and reminding us each of that we are created in the rich vastness of God's beauty and radiance - we are the glory that crowns His creation. I have yet to meet a woman who is not in need of hearing this very message. Each time I read this book I am thankful for my "wild at heart" prince who has invited his "captivating" princess along for a shared adventure in God's kingdom work. Thank you Thomas Nelson for the review copy!
